Privacy Policy — iOS

1. Who we are

Dashka Translator Lite for iOS (the "App") is operated by TLNC TRADE LLC, a company registered in the United States.

2. Summary in plain language

  • No account is required. We do not ask for your email, phone, or any identifier.
  • No ads. No SDKs that show ads.
  • No analytics SDK. No tracking across other apps. We do not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
  • No location, no contacts, no photos, no calendar access.
  • Translation history is stored only on your iPhone. We do not sync it anywhere.
  • Voice and text are sent to our translation servers only when you translate, and are not retained after the request completes.

3. What the App processes

3.1 Microphone audio

What: When you tap the microphone button, the App captures audio from your iPhone's microphone for the duration of your speech.

Why: To convert your speech into text for translation.

Where: Audio is handed to Apple's Speech Recognition framework, which runs on-device whenever Apple supports it for the chosen language. The raw audio is not transmitted to our servers. Only the recognized text is sent to our translation backend.

How long: Audio is processed in real time and discarded immediately after recognition completes. We do not store audio anywhere.

3.2 Translation text

What: The text produced by Apple Speech Recognition, typed by you, or pasted from the clipboard, plus the resulting translation.

Why: To produce a translation.

Where: Sent over HTTPS to our backend at dashka-chatpl-api.vercel.app, which uses OpenAI's translation API. Processed in memory only for the duration of the request. Not retained in any persistent database under any user identifier.

How long: Server-side: not retained beyond the request. On-device: the recent translations stay in your local history (see 3.4).

3.3 Voice synthesis (Text-to-Speech)

What: The translated text is sent to our backend to obtain a voice audio file generated by an AI text-to-speech provider (Grok TTS).

Where: Audio bytes return to the device and are cached temporarily in memory (up to 5 recent translations) and on temporary disk storage when you choose "Share Audio". All temporary audio is purged when the App is closed or restarted.

How long: Server-side: not retained beyond the request. On-device: in-memory cache, cleared on app exit.

3.4 Translation history

What: A local list of your recent translations: source text, translated text, language pair, voice selection, and timestamp.

Where: Stored only in the App's private sandbox on your iPhone (iOS App Sandbox). Not synced to any cloud. Not backed up to our servers. Not shared with any other app.

How long: Until you clear it from inside the App or uninstall the App.

3.5 Clipboard

What: When you tap the paste icon, the App reads the current contents of your iOS clipboard.

Where: Stays on your device. Not transmitted.

How long: Read at the moment of the tap. Not stored.

4. What the App does NOT do

  • No user accounts, no login, no email, no password.
  • No analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude).
  • No advertising SDKs. No ads of any kind.
  • No App Tracking Transparency prompt — we do not track you across other apps because we do nothing that would require it.
  • No camera access. No location access. No contacts. No photo library. No calendar. No Bluetooth.
  • No third-party crash reporting SDKs. The App relies only on the diagnostic data that you choose to share with Apple at the iOS Settings level.

5. Third-party services we rely on

The iOS version of Dashka Translator Lite relies on the following services:

  • Apple Speech Recognition — Apple's on-device speech recognition framework converts your voice into text. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
  • Vercel — hosts the translation backend at dashka-chatpl-api.vercel.app. Receives HTTPS requests containing text only. Operational logs retained briefly for troubleshooting and never contain account-level user identifiers.
  • OpenAI — provides the translation engine called by our backend. Receives the text you submit for translation; bound by OpenAI's business terms.
  • xAI (Grok TTS) — provides the voice synthesis engine called by our backend. Receives the translated text and returns audio.
  • Apple App Store / TestFlight — distributes the App and provides standard crash and performance reporting at the OS level when you opt in via iOS Settings.

These services have their own privacy policies. We do not send personally identifiable information to any of them — only the text you ask us to translate.

6. AI-generated content

Translations and synthesized voices are produced by AI. The voices are not recordings of real people. Machine translation is useful but not perfect — do not rely on it for medical, legal, or safety-critical communication.

7. Children's privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly process data from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the App, please contact us at hello@dashka.ai.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, the GDPR in the EU/EEA, or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we process about you, and to withdraw consent.

Because the iOS App stores history only on your device and our backend does not retain translation content, you can effectively exercise deletion by clearing the local history or uninstalling the App. For any other request, write to hello@dashka.ai.

9. Security

All requests between the App and our backend are sent over HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher). Local translation history is stored inside the iOS App Sandbox, isolated from other apps on your iPhone by the operating system.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this iOS Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date and in the release notes for the next App Store version.
